Campaign Now Ongoing
Under the American Sun (Camp Roxas Film Project) has surged forward in the last seven years with the support of local and federal grants, private donations from the Camp Roxas community and personal funds. The project requires at least $50,000 for post-production costs to expand the film to 60-minute documentary. All funds donated to this film project will be used toward the completion of the film.
Your donation will make you a part of a rare undocumented history of the Filipino labor experience which someday will be heralded as a pioneering historical work in the Asian-Pacific experience. (Campaign ends Dec. 20, 2013)

Camp Roxas was part of my childhood. Although there were 11 children, my mom and dad took in 4 young men. They stayed with us when they had no weekend work.
Bing was the one I remember vividly because he was very talented as an artist and also he would give me and my brothers haircuts. Thank you for your message.

OMG..same here..we go there for my dad's and brother's hair cut... - Patti Babauta Portodo
Bing passed away a while back. I don't recall his name. I remember him teaching me the song "Waray-Waray, Hindi Tatakas, waray-Waray Handang matodas" or something like that. - Former Gov. Carl Gutierrez
Thank you very much...wow! for that song to just pop up in my mind after 65 years. This is a great rallying song! - Fomer Gov. Carl Gutierrez

Facebook comments regarding upcoming Nov. 26 Camp Roxas descendants and former residents photo session:
I was only able to really chat with Father Moki when he came to Guam for 3 months to do services for the Episcopal Churches In Micronesia (ECIM) about two years ago. It was during his last sermons that I realized we rode the same bus from Academy of Our Lady of Guam to Agat-Santa Rita. I remember him as the quiet boy who sat in the front of the bus and spoke only to Bambi S. I need to tell her that Father Moki is on island or will be back on island. It was great knowing that he had ties to Camp Roxas and several of our family friends; such as the Delfins and Robles from Santa Rita. Anyways, I will post and inform people from Agat-Santa Rita and other southern villages that the Camp Roxas group will be out on Nov. 26 at the Agat Night Market. I'll copy and post your message in the Mt Carmel School's group and my wall so the word can go out. - Helen Sales Valencia
Calling all residents and descendants to attend the group photo session. They will have a booth to display their Camp Roxas Film Project. Tag anyone else, please. It would be nice to show up and remember our grandparents and the sacrifice they made to leave the motherland and make a new life on Guam. - Dan-Michael Romulo
I remember the big Easter egg hunts held at Rizal Beach annually. - Nolly Laurente
Can I get contact info to schedule an interview? - Sabrina Salas Matanane, KUAM-TV
I will make copies and distribute. - Patti Babauta Portodo
Norvell, your dad may be interested....he has mentioned that he was part of Camp Roxas Guam - Herma Abalde
Please spread the word to our fellow Camp Roxas members and their families. - Helen Sales Valencia

Dear Ms. Schumann,
I have received a donation of 100.00 USD from Ms. Yeon Sook Park, a Korean and Guam Filipino Artists member, for the Camp Roxas Film Project.
She has read the article in Bayanihan about the opening of the exhibit and your appeal for the extension of Camp Roxas Film Project to one hour, she then becomes interested in the project.
It will be highly appreciated if you could receive the said amount from me at the Consulate General as soon as possible so I can turn-over to Ms. Park the receiving copy.
Someone is developing that place now...was a tangle of a mess. Use to be a big pavilion there and had some parties. Also, the old Camp Roxas guys had a small boat launch there complete with an outside kitchen. Enjoyed that place with a Filipino classmate by the name of Romel Pingue many a days. Fond memories. - Joseph Mendiola
