Camp Roxas Film Project to Hold Fundraiser
TAMUNING, Guam - A fundraiser for the Camp Roxas Film Project will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m., Friday, Feb. 20, at Abandon Ship, next to Power Graphics, across from Tick Tock on Marine Corps Drive in Tamuning.
Advance tickets are $10 per person or $12 at the door and include one drink, free pupus, raffles, games and kaorake. The short film, Under the American Sun, which will be shown at the event, is being expanded to a 60-minute historical documentary. Director Burt Sardoma, Jr, will discuss current work in progress.
Sardoma, under the guidance of Los Angeles-based Chamorro filmmaker Alex Munoz, supervising director and producer, is conducting research and filming the oral history of initial Filipino laborers who arrived in Guam in 1946 as part of the post-World War II reconstruction.
Proceeds will go towards film-related costs and to supplement a recent $5,600 Guam Preservation Trust grant received by the Camp Roxas Film Project for interviews, research, writing, script development and marketing materials. "This film project captures and celebrates the human spirit, interlinking many of us to the past and present," said Sardoma. "The support of our island community is our primary motivation to move toward completion of this film."
